Deprived Kol Children in a village
Akhil Bharatiya Samaj Sewa Sansthan (ABSSS) is a voluntary organisation committed to the uplift of tribals, dalits and deprived sections in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh. ABSSS is based in Chitrakoot district of Uttar Pradesh and is active all over Bundelkhand, though its major work is concentrated in the patha or plateau area of the region.
Powerful upper castes known as dadus have marginalised the people - who are mainly Kols and dalits - economically, socially, culturally and politically since time immemorial. Intervention by ABSSS has regenerated the self-esteem and confidence of these marginalised people. They have started challenging their exploitation and bondage and are increasingly controlling resources to improve their lives.
